i started naming my entries as the first and the second because i lack the creativity of thinking of a suitable title for each of the entries. so my point is that it becomes very tough sometimes to know what you want and so when i came to chennai, all starry eyed, i wanted to make a change. i thought i was 'development ki bandi' anyhow, my misconceptions and that which i realise with each passing day, how wrong, how naive i was..even people who work for development..i dont know how to put this in words..
but if we pretend that we work for the poorest of the poor, thats the biggest possible lie ever..because ultimately profits drive evrything...every thought and hence microfinance and microinsurance are actually targetted at the dynamic poor..the ones who take the initiative..nobody does anythn for the poorest of the lot.. :(
I do agree that alot of development work is getting more and more...corporatised...

Hmmmm........ i know what you mean. SUSTAINABILITY- jst stick that word to anything and its acceptably profit driven. But its a mental fight everyday while working as well- either you accept doling out as a need and as 'alright' or you think of ways to help ppl achieve self reliance. Its funny that social work (my profession) is getting more and more capitalist everyday and i dont know if the frigging theorists realise it! The problem is that its too long and hard to fight the majority economic philo- so you either end up working within this framework doin whatever lill you can or you are just breaking ur head against a granite wall which may wear down in many many years and after it has had many many heads banging on it.
