Fast forward to the present, where I am back to a PhD at Mumbai and with laziness taking over (plus the no money situation), i hardly venture out (This is a big lie)
anyway, just last week a friend and I realised that we should be going for more plays and thankfully we acted on it. Off we went to Prithvi. forget how the play was because according to me plays are mostly great and my focus today is on the atmosphere.
So you reach Prithvi and the coffee shop welcomes you. Someone is playing a flute in one corner. you will even catch a couple of character actors and theatre persons sitting there. And once you absorb it all in and decide to go in...The auditorium is a small cosy place.. Its capacity must be about 150. The plays (i watched 2 in a week) mostly start on time. People who come to watch are most polite and its bliss to not have people whispering or talking amongst themselves or cell phones buzzing in sharp contrast to halls.
Throughout the play, you enjoy the performances connecting with the artists with this whole bunch who came to watch the play with you. It is a great experience.
Once the play is over, the audience claps encouraging the artists, sometimes even giving a standing ovation. people leave with decency, no pushing. Theatre is respected so much here. I love Prithvi and thank god i rediscovered it :)
